6/30/14 FreedomLaxx 2019 Red wins championship at Philly Showdown Read more.

6/30/14 The Freedom 2021 team won the Summer Slam lacrosse tournament in dramatic fashion this past weekend in Westtown. The boys played two games on Saturday evening beating Tri-State from northern NJ 9-2 and Mesa Fever 6-3. Both games were hard fought with Freedom not pulling away until the 2nd half. Sunday morning brought two more pool play games, the Freedom boys beat Brotherhood from Bergen County, NJ 8-4, and then a very strong Orange Crush team from Syracuse 6-2. This allowed the boys to come out of pool play undefeated at 4-0 tied with the Kooper's team.

Given the playoff tiebreaker rules the Freedom team was seeded #2 going into the playoffs and had to face the Orange Crush team once again. This time the game was far closer with the Syracuse team coming out ready to go and taking an early 3-0 lead. Freedom stormed back and eventually won a hard fought battle 6-5 against this very strong squad.

This set up a championship game with Kooper's Lacrosse Club from Baltimore who also came in undefeated. Kooper's came out quick and was up 4 goals before Freedom managed to score. The first half ended with Kooper's up comfortably at 4-1 and the Freedom team needing to regroup. Unfortunately Koopers came out and scored 2 more to take a commanding 6-1 lead with 16 minutes left in the game. From there on the Freedom team played to a much higher level than they had in the 1st half and rode the offensive performance of Matty Traynor, Braeden Lange, Reilly Dugan, Dylan McMahon, Sean Kaiser, & Justin Wescoat to claw their way back into the game. Traynor (2 goals, 10 gbs) was dominant on faceoffs & ground balls while Dugan & Wescoat both added tallies from the midfield. The attack unit of Kaiser (1 assist, 6 gbs), Lange (2 goals, 2 assists), and McMahon (1 goal, 2 assists) played extremely well during the final game as well as throughout the championship.

Defensively the Freedom team played tremendously well throughout the tournament led by Jayden Rowe, JD Shimer, Drew Deves, Aiden Coulter, Luke Shoemaker, & Collin Measel. Jayden Rowe led the way defensively as well as chipped in some goals and assists in transition while Shimer added some much-needed staunch play on the backline. Deves had multiple takeaways and helped to spark transition as well as did Coulter, Measel, and Shoemaker. Both goalies, Ben Tompkins & Tommy O'Malley, played spectacularly both making some great plays when needed as well as clearing to set up transition. Lastly, Owen McLaughlin won the "unsung hero" award for his phenomenal play at short stick defensive middie where his play led to multiple goals and fast breaks. Throughout the tournament points were recorded by Traynor, Lange, Kaiser, McMahon, Wescoat, Dugan, Rowe, Shimer, Egan Butala, Luke Wetzel, Tyler Rodriguez, Will Delaney, Jakob Voehringer & Justin Sanelli.

6/30/14 Freedom 2020 White went undefeated at Lax Evo's Evolution Games and was crowned champions of the 2020 division. Freedom 2020 White dominated in pool play beating Pittsburgh Select 7-4, Team Superstar 8-3 and Team Philadelphia 7-3. Freedom 2020 White then played Pittsburgh Select again in the semi-finals and won 6-2 in a rough battle. In the championship round Freedom faced off against Team Philadelphia again and dominated in a 7-1 victory. Offensively Freedom White was led by attackmen Cole Bertolami, Cole Benson, PJ Oppenheimer, Nolan Smith, Braeden Karpathios and Brady McGovern. Great midfield play from Gabriel Goforth, Spencer Uggla, Matt Brock, Matt Flinn, Joe Morgan, Jared Kolinsky, Michael and Jakob Voehringer and Will Yocum. Keegan Billie did an outstanding job in goal and was supported by Dylan Kilroy, PJ Grubb, Gunnar Romano, Griffin Pumilia and Josh Toth on defense. Coaches Greg Benson, Jay Kilroy and Michael Voehringer were very proud of the effort and result.
